NTB Museum, New Magnet Of Cultural Tourism That Acquires Foreign Tourists
The State Museum of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is one of the cultural destinations that is increasingly attracting tourists, including foreign tourists. The increase in the number of visits every year reflects the great interest in the historical and cultural wealth stored in this museum.
According to the Head of the NTB Museum, Ahmad Nuralam, almost every day there are foreign visitors who come to see collections and study regional history. "Almost every day there are foreign tourists visiting the NTB Museum," he said in Mataram, as quoted by ANTARA.
In the first half of 2025, 1,348 foreign tourists visited the museum. The highest jump occurred in January with 511 people and February with 384 people. Meanwhile, the lowest visiting period was recorded in May (47 people) and June (72 people).
The NTB Museum is consistently included in the list of the top 10 tourist destinations in Mataram City and Lombok Island. Many foreign tourists find it while looking for information on leading destinations on the internet. "When they look for top destinations on the island of Lombok, museums are almost always on the list," explained Nuralam.
To provide the best experience, the museum makes repairs to the outside and inside of the building, adds to the soothing music strain, and installs a sound system in the showroom. Vitrin or glass cabinets to display artifacts are also updated, most of which now are equipped with digital barcodes that can be accessed in various languages.
"Publication through the media and content we create further increases the popularity of the museum. This barcode helps cross-language communication," he added.
Throughout January 'June 2025, the total number of visitors reached 26,393 people. The majority came from students, with elementary school students dominating (10,233 students), followed by kindergarten students (5,614 students), and junior high school students (3,087 students).
